069 - Let’s go to work

Ok, boys and girls - this is it, I switched from my self-produced PHP scripts to Wordpress. More precisely Wordpress with the nice Comicpress theme. Works like a charm, although the transition was a bit fiddly: I had to rename my neatly numbered images to a date-based format and had to create a post for each of the already existing pages (69 including this one).

Frankly, I hate repetitive work. This is exactly what we have invented machines for, but alas - it would’ve been worse to write a converter script. Anyway, it’s done and you are seeing the result in all its glory!

I might mention that it took me some while to get the navigation just the way I like it - Wordpress isn’t quite so docile when you want to bend it against its will. I found that some template tags are just plain missing - such as easy access to URLs for first, previous, next and last post. Sure, there are ways around it, but it could have been easier. Anyway, that doesn’t mean Wordpress isn’t great, just that you should think twice before doing something with it that hasn’t been coded into it in the first place.
